What does ‘gut inflammation’ mean?

Gut inflammation – often called dysbiosis – is essentially a sign that your digestive system isn’t running as smoothly as it should. When the gut lining is irritated or overwhelmed, it struggles to break down food properly and absorb all the vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients your body relies on for steady energy, balanced hormones and clear thinking.

When we remove the foods and habits that aggravate the gut, and instead bring in nutrient-rich, calming meals, something remarkable happens:

FAQ’s

There’s a lot of information to take in here, and I know you’ll likely have a lot of questions, so, I’ve tried to answer as many as I can here. 

If there’s anything I don’t cover, that you’d like to know more about, please drop me a message and I’ll be happy to talk you through anything that isn’t clear.

What is the focus of 4-week Transformation Programme?
The focus of this 4-week plan is to cleanse your system and reduce the inflammation of your gut. Allowing it to work at optimum levels. By removing ‘trigger’ foods from our diet and replacing them with nutrition dense options, we can return our digestive system to full efficiency and ensure we are absorbing all the vital minerals and vitamins we need to function well. We in turn will feel far more energised and our best selves.
What will I eat on this plan?
I have developed recipes for super tasty meal options throughout the plan. You can see an example day menu further up the page, but you can expect plenty of leafy green veg, fresh fruit, beans and pulses plus herbs and spices all packed full of vitamins and minerals.
What will I need to cut out of my diet for this plan?
There are a number of things we will be forgoing for the four-week plan including caffeine and alcohol. This may seem worrying if you are accustomed to your morning coffee, but your body will adjust quickly and the food we will be taking in on the programme will provide you with energy giving nutrients. You also won’t find sugar on the menu, unless it is in the form of natural plant sugars, and foods known to cause inflammation in the body, such as those known as ‘Nightshades’.
What are ‘Nightshades’?

Nightshade vegetables are the edible parts of flowering plants that belong to the Solance family, they include tomatoes, peppers, aubergines and white potatoes. Whilst they are high in nutrients and would be included in a balanced diet, they have been shown to increase inflammation in the body. This can counteract the work we are trying to do in cleansing and calming the gut.

 

Is this plan a detox?
No, we are not aiming to detox your system on this plan. We are looking to reset your gut by reducing inflammation and allowing it to work efficiently.

You may, however, experience a withdrawal from the caffeine and sugar, along with the release of the stored toxins from your fat cells. This can feel strange and a little uncomfortable, and that’s why I suggest complementary supplements** to support you through the programme.
These side effects of withdrawal should ease after just a couple of days, and you’ll start to feel more energised without having these chemicals in your system.

Will I lose weight on this plan?

Whilst it is very likely that you will lose weight if you follow this plan properly, you must understand it is not the main goal and cannot be guaranteed. As your system becomes less inflamed, you will undoubtedly also experience less ‘bloatedness’, so you are far more likely to see a reduction in inches rather than pounds. However, changing your regular diet to a healthy, nutrient dense one may well also result in some weight loss.

What will the coaching calls cover?
I’ll cover different topics that will each aid, accompany and educate you through the programme, including why we exclude certain foods and what they do to our gut, and adjusting your eating habits long-term to maintain your healthy journey.
Are you qualified to recommend this plan?

I studied for the 3 years at The College of Naturopathic Medicine, to become a Naturopathic Nutritional Therapist. This included 1 year in Biomedicine – understanding exactly how the body works – and then a further 2 years studying all forms of nutrition.

My qualification is a diploma, and I have gone on to specialise in female hormone health. Each year we are required to complete 40 hours of CPD training, and much of mine has centred around this speciality. Further to this, I am also a certified Health Coach.

You can be assured that any advice I give is required to be backed up by published papers and studies. So, if there is anything you would like verifying or you’d like to know more about, then please just ask.

Do you offer vegetarian and/or vegan options on the plan?
The plan is not strictly vegan or vegetarian, but there are lots of vegetarian meal options available that can be swapped in for meat-based meals. If you are looking for a strictly vegan plan, please get in touch and I can provide some options for you.
I’m on prescribed medication, should I still follow the Transformation Programme

If you are currently taking any medication, or under any kind of medical supervision you should always consult your doctor before undertaking any kind of detoxification programme.

I have a celebratory meal out planned during the weeks I wanted to follow this plan; can I take a night off?
It’s totally possible to eat out on The Transformation Programme, there are plenty of suitable options in restaurants. You must remember though, NO alcohol!
I can’t give up my morning coffee, can I still do the plan?

Caffeine is a toxin. The objective of this plan is to remove those things that cause inflammation and allow your gut to work efficiently once more. If you continue to have a daily coffee, then you will not truly be removing it from your system. C’mon it’s only 28 days – you can do it, you’ll be amazed at how quickly you adjust and become energised without a morning coffee!!

Once the programme is done, I can advise you how to carefully reintroduce some of the foods we cut out. This way you’ll be able to identify which ones had the greatest effect on your system.

Is this a bespoke plan that you will write just for me?
No, this is a plan I have written with menopausal women in mind, that can be slightly adjusted to better fit with an individual’s preferences.
